June 1st – 7th marks the annual International Nature Journaling Week (INJW) hosted by the amazing podcast @journalingwithnature! This year’s theme is “Back to Basics” — slowing down, noticing your nearby nature, and getting your thoughts, words, sketches and numbers onto the pages of your sketchbook. Each day has a theme that focuses on an important value of nature journaling. The schedule, themes along with inspiring videos and nature resources can all be found at https://www.naturejournalingweek.com/
INJW Day 1 Appreciation! An after dinner stroll around the yard led to fun discoveries!

🕷 We noticed a bee curiously still on a dogwood leaf — it had been captured by a white spider that I suspect matched its color to the nearby white blossom!
Out of curiosity, I have checked 2 more times to see what the spider was up to, and discovered it had caught 2 more bees! This time, it was actually on the white blossom – very camouflaged!

🐝 The buzzing around the rhododendron plants led us to wonder why the dotted pattern on the petals is only and always on the petal pointing up to the sky! Maybe to help the navigation of bees in to find nectar & pollen ❓
There is a lot to discover right in our own back yards! Hope you find some nature treasures in your nearby nature!
Warmly,
Karen
